I devour articles and books on color and give it a lot of thought.
Today's newspaper had an article about the Pantone color of the year for 2013 - Emerald Green.
I have noticed a lot of green lately as well as gorgeous violets and had been wondering which of these hues would be chosen. Again, like the past couple of years with Tangerine Tango and Honeysuckle (an odd name foe a bright pink, a name that makes me envision pale yellow, Oh well!) a vibrant color and one not for large doses unless very smartly done. Please no rather permanent stuffed sofas in this color
After a semester of painting color swatches i had to print this out and check it against my book. Luckily I have a computer monitor and printer that are very true in their hues.
It's a lovely cool green. Much cooler than even the coolest green in my book which uses a Prussian blue and a light cadmium yellow. I may try to mix it up later today.
As a cool green I can see it best in a color scheme based on an 18 color color wheel.
For complimentary hues I use a nice neutral red, neither warm nor cool.
I also favor traditional split complementary and triad color schemes so would choose this green contrasted with a warm red and cool red or use the emerald with a neutral orange and a neutral violet. Since Tangerine Tango was the Pantone color for 2012 do you think that a violet might be ahead for 2014? Would be interesting.
OK, so my challenge for the day will be to produce a craft project using Emerald. I'll see what I can do.
Meantime we need a prize for Day 6 of Xmas. Maybe a 4GB Chip drive in green? Yes, I think that would be perfect.

that emerald green isn't as green as I would think. emerald (to me) is a dark jewel toned green......kinda like in your avatar. but, oh well.....I have a new cardigan this color and I love it! wahoo! off to find a matching couch! (not)
I really like that shade of green. I find color and the use of color interesting. Like you, when they announced honeysuckle I immediately thought of yellow.
What a pretty shade of green! Usually when I think of emerald green, it brings to mind the slightly overbearingness of the Emerald City of Oz, but this color has more depth and would look great as accent pillows or sheets.
I read that article too about Emerald being the Pantene color of the year. I emailed my granddaughter right away as she likes that color. I expect we will see this color on the Red Carpet during the awards shows. I saw a lot of orange last year.
Now this is a color i can live with. since I have red hair I wear lots of green.

I love Emerald and believe I can match it with almost any color there is, and totally ignore my color wheel. LOL! I tried to post a comment last night, but alas... the computer fairy was waving her wand elsewhere and it wouldn't take. I can't wait to see what you make.

I was expecting Monaco Blue to be named Color of the Year. Emerald is ok, though I agree with Susan that I think of emerald as being deeper and richer than this shade. I'm going to miss Tangerine Tango.
That is a pretty shade of green! I hadn't seen it yet...Thanks for sharing!
Going right off the color to you having a monitor and printer that are true.Tell me more. And do you have a Mac?I'm betting yes.I have spent years studying, calibrating, buying printers, tearing my hair out, etc. trying to get the color right.Drives me nutty!
It is a pretty green but I am usually partial to deeper shades.
Tona was chosen as the winner of the flash drive.
Being Irish I LOVE the color Emerald! I am enjoying your posts even if I am late or behind. I forgot how much I enjoy your blog!
Beth my monitor is an old HP called an HP 2509m. Excellent color. I did a color test once and it was very true.
As for printers, I think it is luck. I have an Epson 810 and use brand ink which does help but from what I understand about printers - you just never know.
